What is Ozone Prolotherapy (Prolozone)

Prolozone is a restorative or regenerative injection therapy for joints, tendons, and ligaments using ozone gas along with other healing agents like vitamins, dextrose and homeopathic solutions. It’s a simpler approach to the more common Dextrose Prolotherapy and can be referred to as Ozone Prolotherapy.

Although ozone is a more superior regenerative agent compared to dextrose. Prolozone is excellent for all forms of joint, tendon, and ligament pain including chronic neck and back pain, rotator cuff injuries, degenerative and arthritic knees, hip pain, shoulder and elbow pain, feet and hand pain, strains, sprains, tendinitis and bursitis among others.

About Prolozone Therapy

Prolozone is derived from the Latin word “proli” which means to regenerate or rebuild and the word ozone. Ozone is the most highly active form of oxygen that appears to powerfully promote the repair and regeneration of damaged tissues, joints, ligaments, and tendons. Ozone gas is a strong therapeutic proliferative agent that stimulates the cells that make new and healthy tissue like joint cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. Ozone stimulates healing and a more permanent end to pain.

Prolozone can provide a curative result assuming that any other contributing factors such as infection, misaligned gait, movement deficits, nutrient deficiencies, etc. are successfully managed.

Are there side effects to Prolotherapy?

Prolozone therapy is a very safe treatment. Prolozone therapy when executed by an experienced Doctor rarely causes negative side effects. Any medical treatment has the potential for health risks associated with infection, allergic reactions, fainting, soreness, bruising and hospitalization among others. The typical response is a significant reduction in pain within 24 hours or less common to not respond at all.

What Can I Expect From Prolozone Treatments?

The procedure is relatively painless and you will be able to perform normal daily activities the day of treatment, although you may be moderately sore for the first few days. Most patients notice an almost immediate 50-80% decrease in pain. The response to treatment varies from individual to individual and depends upon one’s healing ability and level of injury.

Most people may only need one or two treatments, while others may need a series of six. The healing process takes weeks. In fact, most collagen is produced during weeks 3 and 4 after the injection. Most patients describe a fluctuating course of aching that gets progressively better. Some patients are pain-free for a couple weeks in what we call the “honeymoon period”. The pain may come back less severe after this period and this is a normal part of the process. It simply indicates that the area is not yet healed and may need additional treatment.

The initial prolozone injection appointment is 45 minutes and follow-up injection appointments are 30 minutes and repeated once a week to once a month until maximum improvement is achieved. Prolozone can be a true cure of most chronic injuries, degenerative processes and pain.
